Givens: 1) a large church space with a pipe organ, a high ceiling, a choir loft, and other peculiarities, 2) the dozen or so musicians of the University of Michigan Creative Arts Ensemble, 3) very little rehearsal time, and 4) a performance date that happened to be Dizzy Gillespie's 100th birthday
Andrew Drury composed and conducted a site-specific, large ensemble extravaganza with musicians moving throughout the space utilizing all available resources.
The result? Edgefest Artistic Director, Deanna Relyea sums it up best....
“The AMAZING moment at the church—Putting this in your hands was the most important decision of the festival! Words fail me—The piece at the church was extraordinary.”
